The ISLA project is aimed at producing a step-change in the way that audio-related applications are conceived, adding ambient intelligence to spatial audio synthesis and monitoring tasks. This may be possible in the new Internet of Things (IoT) era, where multiple sensoring devices with high-performance computing capabilities are interconnected. It is therefore expected that the support offered by such platforms and the combination of audio signal processing and machine learning will have a strong impact on the development of future audio-based systems in a wide range of contexts. Particularly, the enhancement of spatial audio achieved by such advances will come from the gain in intelligence, flexibility, realism and a potential reduction in economical cost. Enriched user experiences derived from customized reproduction approaches based on personal sound zones, customized spatialization and intelligent music analysis are key to lead spatial audio to a new stage.
